Long ago, I was taking a college class and a stunningly beautiful woman happened to be seated beside me.
At the time, I was absolutely certain that it was because the universe wanted me to have a romantic relationship with that woman.
That woman had absolutely no interest in having any kind of relationship with me.
If her goal had been to become a Playboy Centerfold, anyone who met her would have thought that was an absolutely realistic goal.
It feels hilarious to me now, it must have seemed quite odd to her then that I could delude myself into thinking that she would be interested in me.
Several years after the above story, I was getting my car serviced at a dealership.
The car was a luxury car that I had bought with the fumes of money earned working during the dot-com era.
While I was in the waiting area, a much, much older woman was seated beside me.
At one point she put her hand on my knee and then went through an inventory of all her financial assets, real estate, and cars.
Then she said something like "I've got all this stuff and no one to share it with."
She presumably thought I had rejected her advances, but rather I was completely oblivious.
Many years later, the memory above remains vivid because it was an extreme exception.
Unrelated to anyone else mentioned on this web page, I have a crush on a woman who had a sadly unsuccessful venture into modeling, then she went on to have extremely successful career outside of modeling.
The reality is that if this matchmaking website lives up to my expectations, the revenue will still be roughly an order of magnitude below the threshold needed for her to find me as attractive as I find her.
